Each Dakar Rally represents a unique opportunity for Helite to explore new frontiers for its off-road airbag technology. The invaluable feedback gathered from motorcycle riders in the 2021 to 2026 editions allows us to continuously refine and develop airbag solutions that surpass the rigorous demands of elite riders and the most extreme conditions on the planet.

An ergonomic design
The extreme conditions of the Dakar Rally make comfort a priority for this “off road” airbag jacket! The riders will be driving for hours with considerable temperature variations.
The airbag vest worn under the pilots’ jacket was therefore designed to meet their requirements:
- A breathable, ultra-resistant and elastic technical fabric that adapts perfectly to their morphology and stretches during inflation.
- A very lightweight airbag jacket, weight distribution
- Removable sleeves
- A pocket at the back for a water bladder
UNE CARTOUCHE DE SECOURS
The Off Road airbag jacket is equipped with two independent cartridges. This major innovation allows riders to avoid changing the cartridge after the initial inflation and to immediately resume racing, thus saving valuable time.
The electronic system of this Off Road airbag automatically switches from the empty cartridge to the full cartridge.
When both cartridges are empty, the airbag indicates this with a visual and audible signal. The pilot must replace the cartridges following a very simple procedure that only takes a few minutes.
UN BOUTON DÉPORTÉ
Our R&D team has developed a remote button located on the front of the Off Road jacket that allows you to turn the airbag on/off and check its operational status. This improvement simplifies its use and reassures riders.

Helite has chosen to integrate high-quality passive protections in order to maximize pilot safety and thus protect vital areas.

UN ALGORITHME PERFORMANT
The jacket uses electronic airbag technology designed by Helite.
The “Off Road” detection mode was specifically developed for the Dakar Rally. Indeed, the conditions on this legendary race are extreme and unique, so we had to adapt to offer a tailor-made detection solution.
The electronic board was positioned on the back protector to best track the pilot’s movements in real time, analyze the situation and detect the fall as quickly as possible to activate the airbag inflation.
UNE PROTECTION AIRBAG OPTIMALE
As is our custom, the emphasis has been placed on optimal protection with:
- a protective volume: 14L
- Ultra-fast inflation: in 80 ms
- protection of vital areas: cervical spine, thorax, abdomen, back and spinal column
- TURTLE technology: enhanced back protection and improved impact force distribution. More information here.
